Give Us Your Best Shot

Regional 2015 Photo Contest

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is holding the 4th annual region wide photo and video contest. We are looking for your striking digital images or short 30 sec video vignette of our region.  All photos and videos selected will be stored in a regional image bank, providing access to images and videos for marketing and promoting the area. All residents and visitors are welcome to enter. Judging will take place in November by a panel of three professional photographers.  Photos and videos meeting criteria will be uploaded to the contest Facebook page for the chance to win the People’s Choice Award.

This category includes photos or videos of people participating in indoor or outdoor activities in our region.  Photos and videos can be taken in any season and can include activities such as camping, hiking, water sports, winter sports, etc.  Photos and videos must include people to be entered in this category.

This category includes photos or videos of community events such as parades, fairs or music festivals etc.; photos or videos of cultural performances, statues, artists working, murals etc.  Photos and videos can be taken in any season.

This category includes photos or videos that have been digitally enhanced in any way.  Content in this category can vary and photos and videos will be judged on artistic quality and expression.

This category includes photos or videos of our region as a place for adventure.  Photos and videos in this category will include a short caption from the photographer explaining the back story of the picture. (What was the adventure?). Photos can be scenic (landscapes), with or without people or humorous.  Photos can depict activities like camping, hiking, biking, water sports, winter sports etc. and can be taken in any season.

This category includes photos or videos of the animals we share our region with.  Animals can be domestic or wild.  Photos and videos can be taken in any season.

Who May Enter

All residents or visitors in the region are eligible to enter.  All applicants must be 19 years or older.

All photos and videos must be located within the boundaries of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

About the Contest

Photographers are invited to submit their best photos or 30 sec video vignettes in keeping with the categories of the contest on or before October 31, 2015. Photos and videos that are within the categories and are submitted according to the entry specifications will be uploaded to the Contest Facebook page for the chance to win the People’s Choice Award.  All photos will be judged by a panel of three professional photographers for 1st and 2nd place in each category.  The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be given to the photo with the most “likes” on the Facebook page.

Video vignettes must be under 30 sec and can include a sound track.  We are looking for videos that would highlight all our region has to offer.  Video entries will be part of each category and are intended to be interesting and fun.  Use you smart phone, go pro, or digital camera to create your submission.

How to Enter

Enter as often and as many times as you want.  Photos and videos can be from previous years.  You can enter 1 to 3 photographs per entry form or 1 video per entry form.  Fill out the entry form online at www.rdbn.bc.ca/regionalphotocontest.  When submitting online don’t forget to attach your photos.  Good luck! We look forward to seeing “your best shots.”

Entry Specifications

    1. Photographic quality images must be entered digitally online. Colour or black & white images are acceptable. Digital entries must allow for printing in at minimal 8x10 print size with a minimal 150 DPI. (1 MB minimum) Hardcopy, photocopied, or framed images will not be accepted.  Only entries in the Creative Photography category can be modified or edited.  Your entry must be submitted digitally online.
    2. Video vignettes can be taken on a cell phone, go pro camera, or digital camera.  Videos must be under 30 seconds.  Videos must not promote a product or advertise for a company.  Contest organizers will determine eligibility of video and post eligible entries on the Facebook page.
    3. Submit as many entries as you wish in any of the categories.
    4. Contestants must affirm that submissions are their original work. Contestants are solely responsible for obtaining model releases for each identifiable individual. As such, contestants hold the contest sponsors harmless from any breach of copyright or other law in Canada, the USA and elsewhere and from consequential litigation.
    5. The RDBN will retain the use of entries and reserves the right to publish photographs and videos and/or use them in the image databank without compensation to the entrant.  Photos and videos may be edited before they are used for marketing purposes.
    6. Judges reserve the right to transfer entries to a different category.
    7. Entries will be judged by a panel on the basis of creativity, impact, technical quality and how well they express the theme of the category.
    8. Contest deadline is October 31, 2015
    9. Images will not be accepted if the photographer’s name/business is displayed on the face of the photo.
    10. Images or videos containing profanity, promotion of products, or opinions will not be accepted.
    11. Images altered by a photo editing program will only be accepted in the Creative Photography category.
    12. Regional District of Bulkley Nechako staff, Board of Directors, or their families are not eligible to enter.

Contest Deadline: October 31, 2015
