An aggressive wildland interface fire is burning in the Norman Lake/Little Bobtail Lake area, about 50 km southwest of
Prince George.

Evacuation Orders and Alerts have been issued by both the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako and the Regional
District of Fraser-Fort George. A combined map of the alert and evacuation areas is attached.

Evacuation Orders & Alerts for Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako:

Evacuation Order May 10, 2200 hrs.

The Evacuation Order is in effect from the intersection of the Bobtail Forest Service Road and the Blackwater Road,
south to the Bobtail Connector Forest Service Road, including all lands east of the Bobtail Forest Service Road and the
Bobtail Connector Forest Service Road to the eastern boundary of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Electoral
Area ‘F’ (Vanderhoof Rural), including the Little Bobtail Lake, Naltesby Lake, and Eulatazella Lake.
There are 65 dwellings within this evacuation order area.
People living within the Evacuation Order area should register at the Reception Centre located at the Vanderhoof Arena
at 340 Columbia St. East in Vanderhoof.

Evacuation Alert May 11, 0000hrs.

Because of the potential danger to life and health the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has issued an Evacuation
Alert for the area south of Highway 16 from Sob Lake Road to the eastern boundary of the Regional District of Bulkley-
Nechako south to the end of Naltesby Lake including the areas of Blackwater Road, Bobtail Forest Service Road, Bobtail
Connector Forest Service Road, Sob Lake Road, and the Cluculz Lake area.
There are 774 dwellings within the Evacuation Alert area.

Evacuation Orders & Alerts for the Regional District Fraser-Fort George:

Evacuation Order May 10 2230 hrs

A Declaration of a State of Local Emergency has been issued for an area around Norman Lake as a result of a wildland
interface fire in the area. The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued an Evacuation Order for the Norman
Lake area. There are 130 properties in the Evacuation Order area.

People living within the evacuation order area should register at the reception centre located at the Regional District of
Fraser-Fort George office at 155 George Street in Prince George.

Evacuation Alert May 11 0930 hrs

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has issued an evacuation alert around Bednesti Lake, Berman
Lake, and Dahl Lake Road areas as a result of a wildland interface fire in the area. There is an estimated
122 properties in the evacuation alert area.

Information for Residents within Evacuation Alert and Order Areas:

People living within an evacuation alert area are reminded that wildland interface fire conditions may unexpectedly
change and make it necessary to require immediate evacuation to ensure the personal safety of our residents and front
line responders.

Residents in alert areas are advised to take steps to immediately prepare themselves in the event that an evacuation is
required and immediately take the following actions to help prevent damage to home, property and to prepare for
personal safety:

  • gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations;
  • make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location;
  • make arrangements for livestock for a safe alternative location in case an evacuation order is issued
  • prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit for you and your family; remember to include any necessary medications in your kit.

Residents residing full time in a property within an Evacuation Order should check in with the following reception
centres:

  • Vanderhoof Arena at 340 Columbia St. East in Vanderhoof.

Those residing within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George evacuation order register at:

  • Regional District of Fraser-Fort George office at 155 George Street in Prince George.

MEDIA RELEASE - LUCK BAY FIRE PROTECTION UPDATE

May 26, 2016 - The Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) reduced the Luck Bay Fire Protection Area’s status to “unprotected” as of December 15, 2015. While this may have an impact on home insurance rates for residents in the Luck Bay area, it does not change the Fort St. James Fire Department’s commitment to responding to all incidents within its fire protection areas.
