Evacuation Orders & Alerts for the Regional District Fraser-Fort George:

Evacuation Order

No evacuation orders are in effect for the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.  The evacuation order that was issued for the Norman Lake area has been downgraded to an evacuation alert as of 8:00 am May 24.

Evacuation Alert

An evacuation alert remains in effect for the area around Bednesti Lake, Berman Lake, and Dahl Lake Road areas as a result of a wildland interface fire in the area. There is an estimated 122 properties in the evacuation alert area.

An evacuation alert for the area around Norman Lake was issued at 8:00 am Sunday May 24.  Previously, this area was under an evacuation order.

Though much progress has been made to contain the fire, it continues to show unpredictable and aggressive fire behavior and those in an alert area are strongly advised to prepare themselves now for the potential of an evacuation order.  Additionally, recreationalists in the area are encouraged to avoid going into the surrounding areas of the Little Bobtail Lake wildfire.  Fire activity continues to be strong and crews are actively working the fire.  For the safety of the crews and the public, it is advised that recreationalists find other places to go while this wildfire remains active.

Once an evacuation order comes into effect, people will not have access to their property so it is imperative to take necessary steps now.

If your primary residence is in the alert area, you should take the following steps:

  • Secure alternate accommodations (friends and family)
  • Arrange a place to meet family or co-workers
  • Fill vehicle with enough fuel to get to the Reception Centre
  • Wear and pack season appropriate clothing
  • Take purse, cash & credit cards
  • Make travel arrangements
  • Medications, eye glasses, documents, photos & ID
  • Blankets, sleeping bags, books & games
  • Make arrangements for pets and take leashes, crates, pet food
  • Collect precious photos and mementos that can't be replaced
  • Listen to local news, the RDBN website , the RDFFG website   and Facebook page for updates

Protective Services news and updates

May 26, 2016 - The Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) reduced the Luck Bay Fire Protection Area’s status to “unprotected” as of December 15, 2015. While this may have an impact on home insurance rates for residents in the Luck Bay area, it does not change the Fort St. James Fire Department’s commitment to responding to all incidents within its fire protection areas.
