The Regional District is seeking two individuals to work at the Knockholt Landfill, which is located approximately 8km east of Houston, BC to complete litter clean-up activities on a temporary basis.

The temporary positions will be as follows:

  • Working Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day for approximately 4 weeks;
  • A wage rate of $15/hour plus 4% vacation pay.

Applicants for the Positions must:

  • Be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Be safety conscious;
  • Provide their own steel toe work boots that meet safety certifications.

Job Posting-Protective Services Summer Student

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is looking for a motivated student to fill its Summer Student position with the Protective Services Department. This is an ideal opportunity for a student, interested in a career in local government or emergency response, to gain valuable experience working in a local government setting. Duties will include: maintaining and updating records; conducting research; assisting in the preparation of reports and other documents; assisting with social media activity; assisting in the process of updating the emergency response plan; and playing a role in an emergency operations centre in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications include full time enrollment in a post-secondary educational institution (preferably in a related field). The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. A valid driver’s license is required.

Applications should include a cover letter and resume containing three references, and should identify the institution and degree program in which the applicant is / was enrolled.

Job Posting - Building Inspector/Bylaw Enforcement Officer

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Building Inspector / Bylaw Enforcement Officer.  The Building Inspector duties involve undertaking the day to day work associated with implementing the Building Bylaw, including the review and issuance of building permits and performing building inspections, under the direct supervision of the Chief Building Inspector.  The Bylaw Enforcement Officer duties involve the full range of activities associated with enforcing building and land use planning regulations including undertaking investigations, responding to the public, record keeping, and enforcement action. 

The Regional District is looking for an individual that has a working knowledge of the BC Building Code and building practices and procedures; and has the ability to attend training and pass the exams necessary to meet Provincial qualification requirements for a Building Official.  The Regional District is open to considering applications from persons with a strong construction background that have the ability to be trained as a qualified Building Inspector. 

The position requires a motivated and solutions oriented individual with exceptional communications skills.  It is possible that this position may transition into a full time Building Inspector position over time.

                                                 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

“Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1785, 2017”

Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing pursuant to the Local Government Act shall be held regarding “Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1785, 2017” on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 6:30 P.M. in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Board Room, 37-3rd Avenue, Burns Lake, B.C.

“Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1785, 2017” replaces “Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1514, 2009" and provides a statement of goals, objectives and policies to guide decisions on planning and land use management, within the Regional District’s Electoral Area B (Burns Lake Rural) and a portion of Electoral Area E (Francois/Ootsa Rural).

This Public Hearing is to be held by the Director or Alternate Director for Electoral Area B or E as a delegate of the Board. A copy of the Board resolution making the delegation, and copies of the proposed Bylaw and related documents may be inspected at the office of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 37-3rd Avenue, Burns Lake, B.C between the hours of 8:30 A.M. - 12:00 noon and 1:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, from February 1, 2017 to February 16, 2017 inclusive.  A copy of the proposed bylaw and related documents will also be made available at the Burns Lake Public Library.

At the Public Hearing all persons who believe that their interest in property is affected by the proposed bylaw shall be afforded a reasonable opportunity to be heard in person, by a representative, or by written submission respecting matters contained in “Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1785, 2017”.

The Public Hearing is the last opportunity for public input on “Burns Lake Rural and Francois Lake (North Shore) Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 1785, 2017”.  The Board is limited in their ability to consider any representations or submissions from the public after the close of this Public Hearing.
