Houston, Topley, and Granisle Rural
Official Community Plan Review
The Regional District is launching a process to review the OCP for Electoral Area G (Houston/Granisle Rural). The engagement process will start off with open houses in Houston, Granisle and Topley in the spring of 2025. The public events will introduce the process, as well as provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide input regarding land use and community development related issues.
Below you can find the report to the Regional District Board initiating the process, the current OCP document and maps, and other information materials.
The OCP process is estimated to take 12-18 months to complete.
Timeline
What is an OCP?
An OCP is intended to be the community’s vision for the future development and growth of an area. It also provides guidance on important areas such as housing and quality of life and is used to guide land use and development decisions.
Council and Board members, staff, property owners, realtors, outside agencies and others use the OCP to guide their land use and development decisions. It also provides the public and developers with information on how their community may grow.
What does an OCP affect?
- The location and type of public facilities, firehalls, and parks
- The location, amount, type, and density of residential development
- Local government policies for affordable, rental, and special needs housing
- Local government targets and policies for environmental sustainability
- Restrictions on hazardous or environmentally sensitive land
- The location of sand and gravel deposits suitable for extraction
- The location and phasing of major road, sewer, and water systems
