About the EOC
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) is activated during a major emergency at the request of an incident commander and exists to support residents impacted or potentially impacted by an emergency. (e.g. forest fire, flood, ice jam breaks, or other catastrophes).
The EOC can be activated for one of three reasons:
- To support residents by providing public information
- To support residents evacuated with Emergency Support Services
- To support responders when an event has exceeded, or has the potential to exceed, the capacity of responders
The Role of the EOC
The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako Emergency Operation Centre is the primary source of official information to the public and the media. When the EOC is activated, updates will be posted as they become available.
The EOC is typically located at the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako office in Burns Lake, where representatives come together during an emergency to coordinate response and recovery actions and resources, providing information and support to residents impacted or potentially impacted by the emergency. The EOC also acts in a support role to emergency response personnel in the field. It is the operations center where coordination and management decisions are facilitated, and where all official communications regarding the emergency will originate.
Regional Emergency Plan
The EOC is governed by the Comprehensive Emergency Management Policy, and multiple response plans. The EOC is staffed during emergencies with trained personnel.
Officials from each local government and First Nation, including the Regional District, RCMP, fire departments, Provincial Agencies, and Emergency Support Services (ESS) volunteers meet and practice the plans regularly. The Plans also provide guidelines for recovery operations after any emergency or disaster ends.
